UN Women

In July 2010, the United Nations
General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender
Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the
Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda,
bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges
and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of
the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s
empowerment

All UNIFEM programmes support women’s human rights, because women
suffer from the denial of these rights around the world. With women in
every region turning to the Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
as a human rights tool, UNIFEM works with women’s groups and
governments to map shortfalls in national implementation of the treaty,
and put in place laws and policies to uphold it. read more  lea más

             Budgeting for Gender
Equality (2005-09)
The issue: A budget is the most comprehensive statement of a
government’s social and economic plans and priorities. In tracking
where the money comes from and where it goes, budgets determine who
benefits from public resources, and how. Although budgets are usually
perceived as gender-neutral, a set of numbers that impartially affect
women and men, closer inspection reveals that this is often not the
case.
